When can you use a new shower after tiling or panelling?

← All guides

The last afternoon of a bathroom install looks finished. The joints are not. Water on fresh silicone is the most common way a careful job is blamed for a leak that was just impatience.

What is actually drying

Silicone skins quickly and cures through more slowly. Grout and adhesive in a tiled shower need the manufacturer’s time before they are flooded. Tanking systems have their own over-coat times, which are already built into the programme before the tiles go on. Panelled rooms have fewer of these waits and still have sealed joints.

What we tell you at handover

When you can shower, what to wipe down, and who to call if something weeps after that. A guarantee is not an invitation to test the silicone with a power shower at 6pm on finish day.

FAQ

Quick answers

Can I shower the day the fitter finishes?+

Usually no. Silicone needs time to skin and cure, and tile adhesive needs to set before it is soaked. We tell you the time on handover rather than leaving you to guess.

Are panels faster than tiles?+

Often yes. There is less adhesive and grout in the wet zone. Joints still need their sealant to cure. Faster is not the same as immediate.

What if I only have one bathroom?+

We plan the programme so the room is out of action for a known number of days, and we say clearly when it is safe to use again. If you need a night elsewhere at the end, you will know before we start.
